Adam Schefter reports the Giants are leaning toward keeping both head coach Joe Judge and quarterback Daniel Jones after this season. Should they though?
Well well. Little late to the party here. Judge obviously is out. Gettleman retired. Let’s face it (fired) and Jones is the topic here.
Let me tell you. I have studied Jones more then any player. Why? I’m a Giants fan and something just doesn’t seem right.
Jones will probably stay because of lack of options. Forget Wilson/Rodgers/Watson. That’s not going to happen. Let’s talk reality here for a minute.
Realistic options
Keep Jones, bring in competition through free agency or draft And re evaluate in 2023
Trade Jones. Sign a stop gap QB. Re evaluate QB in 2023
options are low. Let’s face it guys/gals. Culture building is built from winning not being a hard you no what. The Giants need to win in 2022 and win early. That’s how a team buys in. Not by Laos and gas running sprints after practice
back to Jones. Try not to watch the game like a fan. Watch Jones and just Jones. Rewind the play. Watch he receivers and coverage. If you have the time. Breaking down Jones is simple. Jones simply processes the game to slow. If he sees it the ball is out on time with accuracy. If he doesn’t he holds the ball. Waiting for someone to get open. Jones is not an anticipated thrower. Jones is a see someone open thrower. And he stairs down his read. Not every play but way to many.
Jones also magnifies negative plays. That’s football 101. Live to play another down. Jones also wonders in the pocket. If your not aware of what this is. I can break it down in another thread.
To make a long story short. Jones needs a offense that is designed to get players open. He needs the thinking taken from his play. McVay, Ried style offense. Your first read is open. If not here is your check down. No progressions, no pre and post snap reads. Play fast and don’t think.
This team regardless of who is brought in (draft, free agency, trades) will not win many games with below average QB play. Jones is not the answer
