Giants' Plan to Redo the Roster With Cuts, Restructures and Trades to Achieve Reducing the Cap by $40M.

Which offensive lineman should the Giants draft at 5 or 7?

  • Ekwanu. Aside from Neal, he is considered the best offensive lineman in the draft.

  • Tyler Linderbaum at Center because he is considered the most athletic player in the draft.

In your article on the state of the Giants and their plan to reduce the cap by $40M, you say that they should keep Evan Engram because the group of TEs in the draft is not very good. I disagree on both counts. First, it's clear Engram needs a change of scenery for him to succeed. And second, the TE position in this draft is considered to be very strong, and I agree with that determination. So, the list of very good TEs in this year's draft includes McBride, Wyndermeyer, Likely, Ruckert, Ferguson, Tolar, Dulcich and Cole. And there are others as well. I don't now why you made that statement about the TEs. It's just plain wrong.

I am on the fence about Engram myself. He has never lived up to his potential. Maybe its part him and part the Giants haven't used him right. The unknown is can Daboll get him straighten out. I guess that a decision the Giants are going to have to make soon.

If the Giants are going to move on from Engram it's a really good year TEs IMHO. If it were me, I would draft one or two TEs. I have seen film on Ruckert he looks really good. Dulcich and Cole are impressive also.

As for Barkley last year he was coming back from major knee reconstruction. The ankle injury didn't help and playing him injured was well....
I know he counts $7 mil against the cap, but I am not ready to let he walk. Being healthy and working with new coaching staff may just get him back to a semblance of 2018. IMHO it's too early to give up on his type of talent.
What do you think?

Give it one more year for Engram and really try to make things work for him.

Leonard Williams is a player this Giants should consider trading this offseason IMHO. His cap hit per overthecap.com (OTC) is $27.3 million for this year. If the Giants trade him, they save $10.7 million with a dead cap hit of $16.6 Million. A trade is worth exploring giving their cap situation. Don't have any idea what the Giants would get in terms of draft picks. He's making Aaron Donald like money without Aaron Donold like production. Another brilliant signing by Gettleman especially since he had to franchise tag him twice.

Another trade candidate IMHO would be Kenny Golladay. If the Giants are able to find a trade partner
they would save $7.6 million against the cap. I don't know what the Giants would get in terms of draft capital either. Having said that these are two contracts the Giants should consider moving on from especially since they are in a rebuild mode and in cap hell.

What do you fans think?

Everyone I've spoken with said this tight end class is not "very strong." That said, I don't think the Giants keep Engram, not especially after Doyle retired and Cleveland franchised tagged their guy.

Heard so many people talk about trading Barkley, Bradberry, Martinez, heck even trade Jones, don't resign Engram, Carter now someone is calling for trading L. Williams, Golladay, next season. Gotta ask a couple questions. Who do the Giants have NOW that is a good or better to replace them? Answer NOBODY. Can a rookie be as good as any of them, NOPE! Do we as Giant fans want to win, of course. But how are we going to win if we GIVE AWAY OUR GOOD PROVEN STARTERS FOR BACKUPS? Gotta say, before you call for trades, THINK, THINK about who do we have as good to replace them. We can't trade or not resign these guys and expect to win. Every team in the league would want Engram, except the Giant fans. I WANT TO WIN, AND WE ARE ONLY GOING TO WIN IF WE KEEP OUR BEST PLAYERS AND ADD SOME PIECES TO THE TALENT WE HAVE. We can't say let's trade or not resign our starters that we drafted then complain about the fact we never resign the players we draft. Let management restructure the high priced starters, BUT WE MUST KEEP THEM IF WE ARE GOING TO WIN AND I WANT TO WIN!!!

I was the one who posted above that the Giants shouldn't trade Barkley. I posted that the Giants should keep Evan Engram (see above). I posted the Giants should resign Lorenzo Carter to a one year prove it deal. I still believe that! I still believe Gettleman should have signed Dalvin Tomlinson (drafted by the Giants) but he didn't. Lack of money was the excuse given. Yet there was money to sign Williams, Golladay, Adore Jackson and Rudolf. Just to name a few. I think the Giants should stick with Daniel Jones. I believe he will be a good QB if they help him. As John Mara stated and I am paraphrasing the Giants have done everything to screw up Daniel Jones since they drafted him.
I did post that the Giants should look into POSSIBLY trading Leo Williams and Kenny Golladay if the trades make sense. Williams and Golladay were not drafted by the Giants. Williams had his career year in 2020 and got paid like Aaron Donald. Golladay had one good year with the Lions and Gettleman signed him to a 4 year $72 mil contract. More than any other team was will to pay for a player with an injury history. What kind year did Golladay have last year. How good were the Giants last year. They were 4-13. They are $20 million over salary cap this year. Joe Shoen stated he had to make tough decisions. He indicated he would look into all avenues to clear $40 mil to get the Giants under the Cap and have money to sign their draft picks. I believe he will straighten out the cap hell the Giants are in.
I would love to see the Giants win next year. Having said that all the mistakes made in the last four years
are hard to overcome in one year JMHO.

According to a report I just read Blake Martinez has decided to restructure his contract and will be staying with the Giants. I hope he comes back strong from his ACL. His veteran leadership will help steady the defense. Sterling Shepard has also restructured his contract for 2022. Good to have a leader in the WR room.
